530 year old temple in Ratchaburi

Wat Aranyikawat is a royal temple belonging to the Dhammayut Sect, located outside the walls of Ratchaburi to the northwest in the plains of Thung Khao. It was once a battlefield between the Burmese army and the armies of Ayutthaya.

The focus of the temple is a large prang and a small prang with 4 corners. The Prang is situated 40 meters behind the ordination hall. A reclining Buddha image made of red stone reclining on the right side. The reclining Buddha image was built in AD 1530-2035 with a length of 30 meters. Inside of the reclining Buddha is a sandstone figure from the Ayutthaya periodi. There are 41 red stone Buddha images in the Lopburi period at the temple to see.

The temple also has two round bell shaped chedis in front of the ordination hall. These chedis are in the style from Sri Lanka.

Wat Phra Khao (วัดพระขาว), located in Phra Khao Subdistrict, Bang Ban District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, is an ancient active Buddhist temple believed to have been established during the Ayutthaya period (likely around the mid-18th century AD, with some estimates placing it circa 1707 AD based on traditional accounts).
