Rather than what most think of a floating market in Thailand, Don Wai is a market located next to a fairly large river. It is one of the best examples of the misunderstanding caused by the mistranslation from ‘Taladnaam’ to ‘Floating Market’. Most markets are built along the river or canal banks and are a central place for people to meet. The canals served as the roads since in the old days frequent floods would make the jungle trails impassable during the rainy season.
