Wat Phutthaisawan or the Monastery of Buddhist Kingship is located on the south bank of the Chao Phraya River.

The temple was built in 1353 by King Ramathibodi I at the royal residence of "Wiang Lek", the site where he first settled before establishing Ayutthaya as the capital city in 1350.

The temple was constructed after his elder brother (the ruler of Suphan) defeated the Khmers and brought them back under the control of Ayutthaya in 1352.

The temple was likely built by the large number of enslaved Khmer inhabitants forcibly removed from Angkor to Ayutthaya at that time. The monastery was one of the first temples constructed and had a preaching hall and a great holy reliquary.

The old temple complex was enclosed by an outer wall measuring 192 meters in length and 92 meters in width. The vihara has its entry to the east and measures 48 meters in length and 16 meters in width. The main Khmer-style prang is surrounded by a square cloister.

The prang, representing the cosmic Mount Meru, is located in the...

Port FC vs Muang Thong United - Crosstown Rivals - October 27, 2024

Port FC hosts crosstown rivals, Muang Thong United in a battle at PAT Stadium in Khlong Toei. Muang Thong sits in 9th place with 2 games in hand in Thailands top league. Port sits in second place, 2 points behind Buriram, with 2 straight wins.

As always the atmosphere at PAT Stadium is lively but it’s crazy vs crosstown rivals Muang Thong United. Facing a team that has the bad blood and animosity from close games over the years makes this a game that can’t be missed.

The expectations for both teams is a win and we were rewarded with a great game with chances on both ends.

The Royal Barge Procession - Centuries Old Royal Boat Ceremony- Bangkok Thailand 2024

The Royal Barge Procession is a special event held on the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok. The tradition dates back centuries to when Ayutthaya was the capital of what was known as Siam. The most recent Royal Barge Procession took place in 2019 for the coronation of King Rama X, the current monarch. This year’s event was in honor of the King’s 72nd birthday, a significant milestone in Thai culture because it completes a 12-year cycle.

The Royal Barge Procession was a regular and important event for the Kings of Siam dating back to the Ayutthaya period (1350-1767) and has continued to the present day. The ceremony temporarily ceased in the 1930s but was restored in the 1950s during the reign of King Rama IX. During the Second World War many of the boats were damaged or destroyed and they were restored by the former king in order to continue this tradition.

The personnel in the ceremony are all sailors from the Royal Thai Navy. Being selected for the Royal Barge Procession is an incredible ...
