Wat Muang Temple วัดม่วง also known as the purple monastery is north of the former capital of Ayutthaya in the Bang Pahan district.
Wat Muang was established around 1812 AD and received its boundary stones two years later In 1814. It is thus a Ratanakosin period construction.
The temple stood on the right bank of the old Lopburi River, in a location where the river made a bend and went straight towards Hua Ro. Some traces of what was once the Lopburi River, still can be found in front of Wat Muang.
The highlight of the temple are the 2 old temple buildings with Rama V murals. Murals inside Phra Vihara were tempera paintings. Tribhumi was depicted on the western wall, behind the main Buddha. A scene of Defeating Mara from the Buddha's Life was depicted on the eastern wall. The Life of the Buddha was also presented clockwise on the side walls. Between the windows, the Ten Previous Lives of the Buddha were painted along with Dharma puzzles.
