Wat Maenangpluem, also known as Wat Mae Nang Pluem or Wat Mae Nang Plum, is an active Buddhist temple located off the historic city island of Ayutthaya. The temple remains in use by the Buddhist clergy and has been registered as a national historic site by Thailand’s Fine Arts Department since 25 July 1995.
Local tradition and temple accounts place its founding in 1377, during the early Ayutthaya period under King Borommaracha I. Some sources suggest the monastery may even predate the formal establishment of Ayutthaya itself, while others link major construction or renovation to the reign of King Naresuan. Its original name appears to have been Wat Tha Khlong, referring to a landing or ford used by herds of elephants before they entered the royal kraal.
